PRIMARY CLASSES I TO V

Classes I – V have been following the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) method and this encourages the students to work equally on various aspects of their scholastic and co-scholastic skills. Technology is an integral part of the learning environment in every classroom. Every lesson is planned in detail and implemented in an innovative way based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, and caters to students with different learning styles. The multiple intelligences of students are assessed at the start of the session and these are used to help plan the lesson.

The Primary Education module is designed to follow the axiom “Discovering the syllabus is more important than covering it”. We believe that the student should have mental access to assimilation along with physical access to learning. In accordance, the working schedules of classes I and II have been designed in such a way that they have ‘short respite’ periods after every 45 minutes of learning. This helps them to come back ready and refreshed for the next session of classroom learning. The concept of ‘classroom library’ (for classes I to V) gives the students direct access to books in their own classroom. Every day after assembly, 10 minutes of reading time enhances and enriches their language skills. Children idolize their teachers to capitalize on this.

The primary school curriculum is based on the NCERT guidelines and focuses on laying the foundations of knowledge, skills and attitudes which will guide the young learners for life. At this stage too, the curriculum supports experiential learning, focuses on conceptual clarity by relating learning to everyday life, developing thinking and analytical skills. The curriculum also aims at nurturing the affective domain of the learners through subjects and activities which will help develop the basic life skills in the learner – self-awareness, effective communication skills and emotional strength. The pedagogy at this stage is not absolutely fixed, structured or prescribed but it is multi-dimensional and flexible, which gives the learner ample opportunities to explore and discover.

The KEY LEARNING DOMAINS which are focused are

• Language and Literacy (Listening, Reading, Writing & Communication skills)

• Numeracy (Mathematical thinking and reasoning)

• Personal, Social & Emotional Development (Self Awareness & Social Awareness)

• Discovery of the World – (Environmental awareness)

• Motor Skills development (Physical & Health Education)

• Aesthetics & Creative Expression (Art Education)

Children also get opportunities to join various hobby clubs as per their interest and aptitude. They participate in intra-section and inter-section competitions, class assemblies, annual days, celebrations and social awareness campaigns. The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), as designed and laid out by the SSE& NCERT, is followed in the Junior School. Formal test & Exams are introduced in Class IV.

TEACHING-LEARNING STRATEGIES

• The School relentlessly strives to uncover the hidden potential in every student and enhances his capabilities by providing opportunities by way of myriad activities & healthy competition in cultural, literary & sports front.

• To facilitate better learning through ‘hands-on experience’, fully equipped Mathematics, Science & Computer Science labs are provided.

• Child-centric approach lays emphasis on discovery method, group learning, project work, surveys, experiments, role plays, etc.

• CAL packages & audio-visual aids are used on a regular basis, assisting the students to understand the concept of a lesson through fun-filled interactive & play way methods.
